Is Whitehill Secondary
Britain's
wittiest school?
When researching profiles of
former pupils we often find clusters of people with a
particular talent. One delightful example is provided
by Whitehill Secondary in Glasgow. While many schools
would be pleased to boast just one top comedy actor among
their FPs, astonishingly Whitehill can lay claim to FOUR ...

Rikki
Fulton |
|
One of
the UK's greatest ever comedians. A true
genius who could captivate a packed theatre simply
by telling funny stories. He also mastered the
medium of television and during the 1980s & 90s
became Scotland's favourite comic producing a host
of wonderful characters such as the Rev. I M
Jolly. |
|

Dorothy
Paul |
|
When
she left Whitehill Secondary, Dorothy became a shop assistant.
However she was born to perform and over many years,
has become one of Scotland's most talented and
best-loved entertainers. Dorothy has enjoyed
huge success on stage and television playing both
straight and comic roles. |

Ford
Kiernan |
|
After
leaving school, comedy actor Ford Kiernan trained as a
tailor and also worked as a barman at Glasgow
University. He shot to fame with his partner Greg Hempell in the TV shows Chewin’ the Fat and
Still Game. As well as working in radio and
theatre, his own play Don’t Start Me won an
award in 1995. Ford has also appeared in a number of
films. |
|

Jimmy
Logan |
|
At school, Jimmy was known as James Short but when
he went on the stage he used the name Jimmy Logan.
It was a name which was to become one of the most
famous in Scotland. He was a success in all sectors
of the entertainment industry: theatre, TV radio and
film, and will always be remembered for his
pantomime roles. Jimmy also did a great deal of work
for charity. |
|
Of course Whitehill Secondary
does not only produce comedians. It can also lay claim
to a top businesswoman, a world-famous singer and one of
Scotland's most impressive intellectuals of the past 50
years!
