(1838-1911) During his lifetime, James Rorie
became one of the top doctors in Britain. He studied
at Edinburgh University where he won three gold
medals for his work in separate subjects. He
went on to build a remarkable career as a medical
doctor and a lecturer on mental diseases. He also
found time in his busy life to write a large number
of articles for top medical journals. |

Norman
is a successful TV, stage and film actor. He
also sings well and has appeared in top shows such
as Les Miserables, Cats and Guys & Dolls.
Norman left Arbroath Academy when he won a
scholarship to the London Academy of Performing
Arts. He has appeared in many top shows in London's
West End - one of the most famous theatre districts
in the world.

Given
the ever-growing role of television and radio in
society, many pupils would like to pursue a career
in the media. Of course, it is a very
competitive world but Sharon is one former pupil who
succeeded in achieving her ambition. After
five hard-working years as a broadcast journalism
she was delighted to be selected as one of the
presenters on Grampian TV's North Tonight
team.

Brian
always wanted to run his own business and has now
achieved his aim. As the owner of a local
building firm he tends to be very busy because a lot
of people know and trust him. Of course, Brian
knows he must do a good job or his reputation will
quickly begin to suffer. Brian is very proud
of the fact that his company now creates jobs in the
community where he grew up.

Many
former pupils will remember Ms Begg who was
Principal Teacher of English at the school when she
was elected as a Member of Parliament in 1997. She
is now of the 646 MPs in the UK. She therefore
sits in the House of Commons and has a say in the
laws which affect the whole country. Anne is a
member of the Labour Party and was elected as the MP
to represent the people of Aberdeen South. (more)

Louise
realised a childhood dream when she gained a place
on a nursing course. She is now in the third year of her training and
has passed all her assessments so far. Louise is
looking forward to working in Accident & Emergency
(A&E) as she will discover whether TV's
Casualty is accurate! She eventually hopes to become a
hospital ward sister.
