Many
pupils would love to work in television. Janey
is someone who has achieved this ambition. After
school she studied at the University of York and
Chicago University. She then joined the BBC where
she was a producer in News & Current Affairs. Janey
has since held a range of important posts and now
heads up the team that commissions new programmes
for Channel 4. She is also the channel's Head
of Education.

Liz is
an award-winning visual artist based in the Borders.
Her work explores natural forms present in the
environment. Sometimes she uses electron microscopes
to offer a different perspective. In the past, Liz has
worked with the Royal Botanic Gardens and the
Borders Forest Trust. She also helps young people in
schools to understand more about their environment
by making large scale 3D structures. (more) |

Prof Joseph
Lamb
Education |

Many
former pupils of have enjoyed a successful career in
education. Joseph is a good example. He
was Dux of the school in 1947 and went on to study
at Edinburgh University. After completing his
National Service with the RAF he took up a number of
academic posts in Scottish universities. He was
appointed Professor of Physiology at St Andrews'
University, and remained so for almost 25 years.

Over
the years, many Brechin High pupils have shown great
ability in English classes and a few have dreamt of
becoming writers when they leave. However, it
is not easy to make your living as an author.
Betsy is someone who has managed to have her books
published. Her fans greatly enjoy reading her
two books Yellow on the Broom and Red
Rowans and Wild Honey.

Anne
is one
of 646 Members of Parliament
(MPs) in the UK. She therefore sits in the
House of Commons and has a say in the laws which
affect the whole country. Anne is a member of
the Labour Party and was elected as the MP for
Aberdeen South in 1997. Before this, she was
Principal Teacher of English at Arbroath Academy ...
a job she gave up with some reluctance to become a
full-time MP. (more)

Lindsay

Journalist |
|
Lindsay is one of Britain's top journalists and TV
news presenters. Indeed, he is a former winner of
the Sony Radio Reporter of the Year Award for his
coverage of the 1988 disaster at London's Kings
Cross underground station. Lindsay has also reported
from conflict zones in Ethiopia, China, Afghanistan
and many other countries, and is one of the longest
serving members of the team at Channel 4 News. (more) |
