Vidler


Acting

Susan studied drama in Cardiff and is now enjoying a successful career. She has appeared in many films, including some leading roles. Played Lady Macbeth when the play was set in an inner city estate.

Artist

One of Scotland's most successful artists. His paintings are found in the Tate Gallery, all of Scotland's major galleries and in museums throughout the world. (more)

One of the greatest surgeons in history. A Professor at King's College, London and President of the Royal College of Surgeons and also President of the British Medical Association! (more)

Jennifer

Science

Jenni scored the top mark in Scotland for Higher Physics in 1999 and now works in mathematics and physics research at Cambridge University. She is undertaking her PhD and is part of the Cambridge Supersymmetry Working Group. more

Louise

Nurse

Realised a childhood dream by gaining a place on a nursing course. Now in her third year and greatly enjoying the course. Louise eventually hopes to become a hospital ward sister.

Sport

Scott is one of the most talented rugby players ever to attend Preston Lodge. He  has played at the highest levels in Scotland and England and enjoyed success in a Scottish jersey having established himself as a top line-out jumper.


James
Fairgrieve


Artist

James is one of Scotland's leading painters and art teachers. He works in oil and watercolour and has won many awards for his work. He has been commissioned to paint Prince Philip. (more)

Gary

O'Connor

Sport

Gary is a top foot-baller. He signed for Hibs as a youth and has gone on to play for Locmotiv Moscow in Russia and Birmingham City in the English Premier League. He is also a regular member of the Scotland squad.

Education

On hearing about a lack of school books in Orissa in India, Emma started collecting surplus books from schools. After a lot of hard work she managed to send many books to schools in the region.

Maths

In 1999 a team made up of the best Maths students in S5 at Preston Lodge won the Scottish section of the international Mathematiques sans Frontieres competition.

Livingstone


Education

George attended Edinburgh University before enjoying a long teaching career. Also an author, a lecturer and an education advisor to the government of Ethiopia!

John

Smith

Soldier

John's achievement was to help Britain and its allies win World War I. Sadly, he paid the ultimate price for his country when he died at the Battle of the Somme in France. John was 18 years old.

Education

Many former pupils will remember Mr Broadfoot as Head of English at Preston Lodge. Since then he has gone on to be Rector of one of Glasgow's best-known schools, Kelvinside Academy.

Business

Brian always wanted to run his own business and with a lot of hard work, has now achieved his aim. He is proud that his company now creates jobs in the community where he grew up.

Maths

Martin won two prizes for "Outstanding Performance" in SQA Advanced Higher exams in 2007. He scored 99% and 98% in Maths and Applied Maths. Martin is now at Trinity College, Cambridge furthering his studies of mathematics.

Police

Decided on a police career in her final year at school and has never regretted it.  Sarah enjoys being part of a hard-working team who help each other in their effort to tackle crime.

Historian

Julie is a keen historian who has written a book on the local history of Prestonpans. She works locally helping older people. She is also a member of Prestonpans Historical Society. (more)

The school is proud of many former pupils who work in the National Health Service (NHS). Janet studied Medicine at university and is now a doctor in the Accident & Emergency Unit of a major hospital.

MPs, MSPs and local councillors are elected to make important decisions that affect people's lives. Mary is a hard-working councillor who helps local people with a wide range of problems.

Studied law at university and then joined a law firm to complete her training. Has since gained experience and is now a partner in a major law firm. She helps her clients with a wide range of problems.

A social worker with a heavy case load. His job can prove very demanding but Robert is happy with his choice of career because he finds it very satisfying to help people in great need.

Music

Music is important to most people but only a lucky few manage to make a living from it. David was a full-time musician for a many years. He now plays part-time in a band which performs at functions.

Pauline studied accountancy before joining a Scottish bank. She has since shown that Scottish qualifications are respected throughout the world by moving to a senior post with a bank in Australia.

In the world of work, people must be prepared to re-train.  Susan first served an apprenticeship as an engineer but has retrained now helps other engineers to use modern technology.
