Cardinal Gordon Joseph Gray was very popular and
influential during his spell as head of the Catholic
Church in Scotland. His highlight was receiving Pope
John Paul II on his visit to 1982 when pupils from
St Augustine's and other schools saw the Pope at
Murrayfield Stadium. |

but someone who did not believe in talking about his
own achievements. He
edited and published some of the greatest books of
the late 20th century and helped many writers
learn their trade when they were just starting out in their career. |

Tom has proved to be one of Britain's most
successful businessmen over the past 40 years. Having
shown his business know-how by building the Kwik-Fit
empire from scratch, he
continues to work very hard but still finds
time to make an annual pilgrimage to Lourdes to
assist fellow pilgrims who are very sick. |

Sinead
was a top school athlete who went on to become one
of Scotland's most successful athletes, running for
Scotland and Britain on many occasions. She competed in the 400m hurdles and 4x400m relay in
the Commonwealth Games, Olympic Games and World
Championships. |

In the
mid 1970s Stuart was a guitarist with with one of
the world's most famous pop groups, The Bay City
Rollers. The band reached No.1 in both the UK
and the USA. In recent years, Stuart has enjoyed
great success in the world of traditional Celtic
music. |

Brian
always wanted to run his own business and with a lot
of hard work, has now
achieved his aim. He set up and runs his own
construction business and is proud of the fact that his company now creates jobs in the
community where he grew up.

Modern
Studies teachers at Saint Augustine's have prompted
many pupils to take an interest in politics. Angus
went on to become an MSP for the Labour Party
representing Edinburgh South. He was also
appointed a government minister. |

Francis
McWilliams |

A
remarkable man! He graduated from Edinburgh
University as a civil engineer at the age of 19. He
later turned to the law and became a successful
barrister. More was to follow when he went on to became the
Lord Mayor of London ... and receive a
knighthood! |
