Mr
Thomson

Teacher

Pupils who play a brass instrument know just how good a teacher Mr Thomson is. In fact, in 2003, he won the Daily Record Award for The Inspirational Teacher of the Year.  As one colleague put it, "Everything he does, he does with an infectious enthusiasm which rubs off on everyone around him.

Charlie
Miller

Charlie was very talented schoolboy footballer who went through the Rangers youth system and made it all the way to the first team. At Dundee United his fantastic skills made him a fans' favourite. Charlie played for Scotland against Poland in 2001.

Johann
Lamont

Politics

Many pupils will remember Ms Lamont as the Principal Teacher of Education Support. She gave up teaching to follow her interest in politics and was elected as the MSP for Glasgow Pollok in 1999, and re-elected in 2003. She represents the Labour Party at Holyrood. Another of Johann's skills is that she can speak Gaelic.

John

Smith

Soldier

John was one of many whose great achievement was to help Britain and its allies win the First World War. Sadly, he paid the ultimate price as a newspaper report in 1916 tells: "Corporal J. Smith has been killed in action near Somme in France.  He was educated at the local school and, before being called up, was a factory worker. He was 19 years of age."

Sarah decided on a career in the police when she was in her final year at school. She has never regretted it.  Her work is varied and she enjoys helping the public in many ways. Sarah also likes being part of a hard-working team who help each other.  She believes it is important to uphold the law and finds it is very interesting to deal with those people who decide to break it.

Jimmy

Calderwood

Jimmy has been one of the most successful football managers in Scotland over recent years. He was a professional player at Birmingham City and Stoke City before moving to the Netherlands where he played for 10 years. Jimmy then became a club manager in Holland where his success was noted back in Scotland. He returned to manage Dunfermline Athletic. He was so successful that he later moved to Aberdeen. (more)

Sandra

Grey

Law

Many former pupils have followed a career in the law.  Sandra is a good example. She studied law at university before joining a law firm to complete her training. She has since gained experience of many aspects of the Scottish legal system.  Sandra now puts this knowledge to good use as a senior partner in a local firm of solicitors.

Brian

Hall

Business

Brian always wanted to run his own business and has now achieved his aim.  As the owner of a local building firm he tends to be very busy because a lot of people know and trust him.  Of course, Brian knows he must do a good job or his reputation will quickly begin to suffer.  Brian is very proud of the fact that his company now creates jobs in the community where he grew up.

Jim

Watson

Education

Local families believe learning is important and it is therefore no surprise that many former pupils have achieved a lot in the world of education. Jim is a good example. After going to university and then studying to become a teacher, he has enjoyed a long and successful career in the classroom.  Jim has helped many young people not only pass exams, but also enjoy school!

Gary

Thomson

Sport

Gary was a talented young footballer at Grange Secondary, and went on to play for Dunfermline Athletic as well as Falkirk. Those he played alongside or managed will always remember Garu.

Susan

Jones

Engineer

In the workplace, people must be prepared to re-train and keep their skills up-to-date.  Susan is a good example. She first served an apprenticeship as an engineer and has since trained in computer studies.  She enjoys using modern technology in her work.  In fact, Susan now trains other engineers in the use of Computer Aided Design (CAD) at work.

Many pupils choose to help people less well off than themselves. For example, Emma spends a lot of time working with a volunteer group which helps the families of local children with special needs.  Emma is happy to give up her spare time in this way because she finds it very satisfying and has also made many good friends.  Now she is considering a career in education.
