Charles
Brown
Soldier |
|
Charles was one of many whose great achievement was
to help Britain and its allies win the First World
War. Sadly, he paid the ultimate price as a
newspaper report at the time tells: "2nd - Lieut.
C.T. Brown, A.&.S.H., has been killed in action in
France. He was educated at Hillhead High School, and
before being called up was in the employment of
Messrs. Arthur & Co. (Limited), Queen Street. He was
19 years of age." |

Anne
Donovan
Writer |
|
Many
pupils knew Mrs Donovan as their English teacher at
Hillhead but few realised she would go on to be a
successful writer. Anne studied English
Literature at Glasgow University before becoming a
teacher. She was shy about her own writing until she
joined a writer's workshop which gave her more
confidence. Her debut novel, Buddha Da, about
a young girl's father becoming a Buddhist, was
warmly received by the critics. |

Christine
Higgison |
|
Education |
|
Families in Glasgow value learning and it is
therefore no surprise that many former pupils have achieved a lot in the world of
education. Christine is a good example. Following a
highly successful teaching career she went on to
become 'Head of Primary Schools' for Glasgow City
Council. Throughout her long and successful
career, Christine has had a positive impact on the
lives of many children. |

Jonathan
Watson
Comedy |
|
Scottish football fans know Jonathan as a brilliant
mimic who pokes fun at a wide range of people.
However his talent is much wider than this. He has
also appeared in and written material for a host of
popular radio and TV shows. |
|

Stanley
Baxter
Comedy |
|
A
truly great comic. Stanley's TV 'specials' shows were
watched by millions and his Parliamo Glasgow
sketches will always be remembered. Stanley's stage
performances are also legendary, particularly when
he appears in traditional pantomime, an art form he
loves. |
|

Gordon
Jackson
Actor |
|
A very
successful stage and screen actor. Gordon is best known for his roles
in Upstairs Downstairs and The
Professionals. Has also appeared in many films
such as The Great Escape. His very
first film was the ever popular Whisky Galore. |
