Valerie is a talented actor who is enjoying a
highly successful career. She has already
appeared in popular television shows such as The Crow Road and
Kavanagh QC. She has also worked with many
top actors in films such as Saving Grace.

Johnston

Mr
Johnston, who teaches Technology, works
incredibly hard to help Springburn's pupils. So much
so, that in 2002 he was voted Scotland's
Most
Inspirational Teacher and last year he was also
awarded an MBE in the Queen's Honours List! |

Christopher
Kilshaw

Christopher is one of the most talented students the
Art department at Springburn has seen. In 2003, The
Royal Academy of Arts selected one of his drawings
for an online exhibition, making it one of only a

Angus
McKenzie
Music |

One of
Springburn's most remarkable pupils. Angus joined
the navy, then the army, was injured fighting in a
war, went to sea again, jumped ship in the USA and
became the country music star 'Karl Denver' before
being found out and deported by the US Govt.
Returning to Britain, he became a yodelling pop star
who had a massive hit with the South African

Graham

Graham
has spent more than 30 years travelling the world,
playing music and entertaining people. After a few
years in another band, his first chart success came
with a group called Marmalade. Their biggest
hit was a Beatles song, Oblidi Oblida which
reached the No.1 spot. Graham knows he has enjoyed
some luck in his career but he is also a talented
musician and has worked very hard for his success. (more) |

Ervine

Mrs Ervine was nominated as an Achiever by a pupil
who believes her Head Teacher has done a lot to
improve the way pupils view the school. In
turn, this has improved exam results greatly. The pupil
and many of her fellow students are clearly grateful to Mrs
Ervine and the other staff at the school for all
their hard work. |

At
school Campbell represented Glasgow in football and
athletics. He went on to become a great servant to
the Trade Union movement. He is now Chairman of
Falkirk Football Club. |

Alan
was a talented footballer at school who went on to
play professionally. His clubs have included Hearts,
Rangers and Sunderland. Alan also played for
Scotland. |

Molly
was educated at Albert Secondary which later became
Springburn Academy. She was a very popular actress
who played many roles on stage and screen. |

Brown

Geography teacher, Ms Brown, is clearly an inspiration in the eyes of some
pupils. They took the trouble to
nominate her as a 'Springburn Achiever' because of all
the extra work she does on behalf of youngsters at
the school. This includes
charity fundraisers and organising school
trips abroad. |

Hussain and Scott nominated Mr Johnson in CDT for
the Daily Record's Most Inspirational Teacher
award. They appreciate all the hard work he does to
help pupils ... even running a triathlon to raise
money for a trip abroad! Their efforts paid
dividends when Mr Johnson won the Daily Record
award. |

John
was one of many whose great achievement was to help
Britain and its allies win the First World War.
Sadly, he paid the ultimate price as a report in a
local newspaper in 1916 tells: "Corporal J. Smith has been
killed in action near Somme in France. He was
educated in the local school and before being called up was
a farm labourer. He was
19 years of age."

Louise
realised a childhood dream when she gained a place
on a nursing course. She is now in the third year of her
training and has passed all her assessments so far.
Louise is looking forward to working in Accident &
Emergency (A&E) as she will discover whether TV's
Casualty is accurate! She eventually hopes
to become a hospital ward sister.

is a successful actor who has appeared both on stage and
screen. Many people in Scotland may not know his name but recognise his face because
he has appeared in some of the nation's most popular
TV shows. David enjoys the TV work but is
happiest performing on stage in front of a live
audience.

former pupils have followed a career in the law.
Sandra is a good example. She studied law at
university before joining a law firm to complete her
training. She has since gained experience of many
aspects of the Scottish legal system. Sandra
now puts this knowledge to good use by helping her
clients deal with a wide variety of problems.

decided on a career in the police when she was in
her final year at school. She has never regretted it. Her work is varied and
she enjoys helping the public in many ways. Sarah
also likes being part of a hard-working team who
help each other. She believes it is important to uphold the law and finds it is very
interesting to deal with those people who decide to break it.

have achieved a lot in the world of education. Jim
is a good example. After going to university and
then studying to become a teacher, he has enjoyed a
long and successful career in the classroom.

Politicians make Government decisions but it is
civil servants who put them into practice.
Without civil servants, important services such as
hospitals and schools would grind to a halt. Many
former pupils have gone on to enjoy successful
careers in the Civil Service. Alan is a good
example. He has held many top posts including
a spell working closely with a government minister.

In the
workplace, people must be prepared to re-train and
keep their skills up-to-date. Susan is a good
example. She first served an apprenticeship as an
engineer and has since trained in computer studies.
She enjoys using
modern technology in her work. In fact, Susan
now trains other engineers in the use of Computer Aided Design (CAD)
at work.

Brian
always wanted to run his own business and has now
achieved his aim. As the owner of a local
building firm he tends to be very busy because a lot
of people know and trust him. Of course, Brian
knows he must do a good job or his reputation will
quickly begin to suffer. Brian is very proud
of the fact that his company now creates jobs in the
community where he grew up.

spent a gap year working as a volunteer in a
developing country before completing a university
degree in Politics & Economics. He then decided to train as a social worker.
Robert now has a heavy case load at work and at
times, his job can prove demanding. However, he
has no regrets because he finds it very satisfying
to help people in great need.

showed a lot of promise as a young footballer at
school and has gone on to enjoy a career in the
professional game. He knows there are many
gifted players around so he trains hard to
develop his skills and remain fit. He also
goes into each game prepared to work hard for his
team. Callum has a very positive attitude which means he enjoys
life even when his team loses.

MPs and MSPs may be better known to the general
public, but local councillors such as Mary, take
many decisions that have a real impact on the lives
of local people. Each councillor is elected to represent an area called an
'electoral ward'. Mary is a hard-working councillor
who tries her best to help people with a very wide
range of problems.

Pauline liked accountancy at school and chose to
study it at university. She then joined a large
Scottish bank and quickly became a team leader who
enjoyed the challenge of helping others to perform well.
Pauline has since shown that Scottish qualifications
are respected throughout the world by moving to a
senior post with a large accountancy firm in Australia!

Music
is important to most people but only a lucky few
manage to make a living from it. Even if it is not
possible to do this for an entire career, many
musicians get great enjoyment from performing on a
part-time basis. David is a good example. He spent
many years as a full-time musician, even appearing
on TV. In recent years he has taken a 'normal
job' but his band still enjoys playing at functions.

The
school is proud of many former pupils who have gone
on to work in the National Health Service (NHS).
Janet studied Medicine at university and at one
stage was a doctor in the Accident & Emergency Unit
of a major hospital dealing with victims of major
road traffic accidents as well as patients with
sprained ankles! She is now a General Practitioner (GP)
based at a local health centre.

Many
pupils choose to help people less well
off than themselves. For example, Emma spends a lot
of time working with a volunteer group which helps
the families of local children with special needs.
Emma is happy to give up her spare time in this way
because she finds it very satisfying and has also
made many good friends. Now she is considering
a career in education.
