Irene
Graham

Politics

Irene graduated from Glasgow University before starting a family. After doing voluntary work as a young mum in Castlemilk for 5 years, she taught English and Drama in St. Margaret Mary’s. She then began working in the voluntary sector. Irene became a local councillor in 1995, a natural step after many years active in the community. One of her jobs is take forward equality issues in the Council. Irene represents Victoria Park Ward. (more)

Davie
McKay

Actor

Over the years, Glasgow has produced many talented stage and screen actors. Davie is good example. He is both an actor and a director ... and he loves his job. During his career he has appeared in many wonderful shows including a starring role in the children's series Stookie. Davie also appeared in BBC's popular comedy show Rab C. Nesbitt. In addition, he has acted in a number of films including My Name Is Joe which is set in Glasgow.

Anton
Colella

Education

St Margaret Mary's Secondary has had many excellent teachers over the years. Many former pupils will remember Mr Colella' who was Depute Head Teacher at the school before moving to the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA).  In 2003, he took on one of the toughest jobs in education when he was appointed Chief Executive of the SQA. This is a high pressure job so Anton finds it very helpful to relax by walking, reading and playing guitar.

Tommy
Docherty

Community

Tommy is one of the key people helping to regenerate the Govan area of Glasgow. He is an Executive Officer with the Govan Initiative a community-based company which employs over 100 people and aims to make Govan a modern, thriving part of Glasgow. Tommy believes strongly in the value of learning and has recently completed an MBA working mainly in his spare time ... an impressive achievement!

Libby
McArthur

Actor

Libby is very well known to the people of Scotland from her role as Gina Rossi in the BBC soap opera River City. During her career Libby has played roles on stage and screen including a part in another Glasgow programme, Taggart. Like some famous people, Libby could begin to think she is very special. Instead, she keeps her feet firmly on the ground by helping other people through a number of charity projects.

Education

Schools put in a lot of effort to help pupils get the most out of their education.  A lot of this work goes on quietly without any fuss.  However, occasionally schools are given special recognition for their efforts in the form of an award.  This happened in 2006 when St Margaret Mary's won a One Scotland - Anti-Sectarianism Award for its work in tackling religious divides in the local community.
