However she was born to perform and over many years,
has become one of Scotland's most talented and
best-loved entertainers. Dorothy has enjoyed
huge success on stage and television playing both
straight and comic roles. |

Michelle

Michelle is an inventor and an entrepreneur.
She was brought up in a home without much money but
her talent and determination not to give in, have
helped her build a business empire worth
millions of pounds. Michelle is a former model and
has used her interest in fashion to invent and
design a range of clothing which has proved very
popular. |

Alasdair
Gray

Alasdair is both an artist and an author! After
Whitehill he studied at Glasgow College of Art and
indeed went on to teach there. Some of his
artwork is on display at the People's Palace in
Glasgow Green. Incredibly, one of his books,
Poor Thing, won both the Whitbread 'Novel of the
Year Award' and The Guardian Fiction Prize. |

Ford
Kiernan

After
school, comedy actor Ford Kiernan trained as a
tailor and also worked as a barman at Glasgow
University. He shot to fame with his partner Greg
Hempell in the TV shows Chewin’ the Fat and
Still Game. As well as working in radio and
theatre, his own play Don’t Start Me won an
award in 1995. He has also appeared in a number of
films. |

Jimmy
Logan

At school, Jimmy was known as James Short but when
he went on the stage he used the name Jimmy Logan.
It was a name which was to become one of the most
famous in Scotland. He was a success in all sectors
of the entertainment industry: theatre, TV radio and
film, and will always be remembered for his
pantomime roles. Jimmy also did a great deal of work
for charity. |

Lulu

Born
Marie McDonald McLaughlin Lawrie, she is now better
known as Lulu. Marie has enjoyed a long
career in the music industry. At 16 she had a
massive hit with Shout and went on to win the
Eurovision Song Contest. Forty years on, she is
still a successful singer. Marie often appears on TV
and enjoyed playing Adrian Mole's mother in
the TV adaptation of the popular book. |

Madeline
White

Madeline was a brilliant student who was the
school Dux and in 1992 won the first Centenary
Prize. At Strathclyde University she gained a 1st
Class degree in Laser Physics and Optoelectronics,
and then completed a PhD before going on to work in
the electronics industry. Tragically, Madeline died
suddenly in 2005 but she will always be remembered
for her warm and friendly character as well as her
brilliance. |
