William
Dobbie
Artist |
|
William's remarkable artistic talent was clear at
school when he won gold and silver medals in
national art competitions. He went on to study at
Glasgow School of Art. Having grown up on the
banks of the Clyde, he loves painting ships and is
now one of the top marine artists in the world. He
also paints wonderful scenes of Glasgow. |

Neil
Primrose
Music |
|
As the
drummer with Travis, many people feel Neil is
lucky. He agrees, but for a very different
reason. A few months ago, he had a swimming
pool accident when he dived into a shallow pool and
broke his neck. At the time, he felt he was dying
but someone spotted him. Now Neil feels he is lucky
not because of his fame but because he is healthy
again. |

Keith
Anderson
Sport |
|
Few
schools can boast a world record holder, but
Smithycroft can. Keith did not take up running until
his 30s but when he did, he was a sensation.
He won the Scottish Cross Country Championship at
37 and, at the age of 41, was the second fastest
British runner in the Commonwealth Games marathon.
Also, at 40 he broke the 20K World Record for
veteran runners! |

Kenneth
McIver
Education |
|
Smithycroft Secondary has been lucky to have many great
teachers over the years. Some have gone on to top
posts elsewhere. Many former pupils will remember
Mr McIvor who taught Modern Studies & Economics who
has since gone to become Head Teacher at Alness
Academy. |

Sport |
|
Smithycroft Secondary became the first Scottish
school team to reach the later stages, of the
Powergen Schools Rugby League Tournament, after
winning an important tie in Newcastle. The school
took up rugby in 2003 after three local primaries
introduced their pupils to the sport. Now many boys
and girls play regularly. |

Stephen
Purdon
Actor |
|
Stephen is one of Scotland's best-known actors
thanks to his role as Bob in BBC's popular soap
River City. He has also appeared in a number of
films as well as many stage productions. Stephen is
keen to encourage youngsters and has taken part in a
number of workshops which help school pupils learn
about drama and writing. |
