Jack
grew up on a sheep farm in Arran. He studied at
Stirling University and became a maths teacher but
his love of politics saw him elected as a local
councillor and then an MSP. Jack has since held a
number of key jobs including that of First Minister.

Jackie
was a top radio presenter who began her career at
West Sound in Ayr and went on to become the
first female presenter with her own weekday show on
Radio 1! Jackie later moved to the USA but has since
returned to Britain and is often seen as a TV

Some
people are extremely fit. Then there is
Jennifer. She is the only athlete ever to have won
Scottish titles in all five endurance running
disciplines - cross country, hill running, road
running, outdoor track and indoor track. She
was also the school dux!

One of only 25 students across Scotland selected for
the Scottish Space School 2004. This involved
a visit to NASA
headquarters in the USA where she saw the Space
Shuttle and worked with NASA astronauts and scientists.

Many
FPs agree Maths teacher Mr Stewart made a big impact
on them during their time at Arran High. Indeed, one
of his most successful pupils, First Minister Jack
McConnell, went on to become a Maths teacher
himself. |

Many Arran High pupils have gone on to make their
mark in foreign countries. Sean is a chartered
surveyor who owns the largest foreign-owned property
company in Russia. He lives in St Petersburg and
knows the Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin. (more) |

John's achievement was to help
Britain and its allies win World War I.
Sadly, he, along with many, many others, paid the ultimate price for his country
when he died at the Battle of the Somme in France.
John was
18 years old.

Many people would love to sing or act in public but
few have the talent confidence to do so.
Sandy has both and gave a great performance in Arran
High's production of Les Miserables in 2004.
As a result, he won the lead part in
another local production. |

Elaine
& Janice are successful in the business world
along with brother, Sean (see above). They are
partners in a large property company based in St
Petersburg in Russia. The company owns apartment
blocks and hotels ... and in 2007 bought the old
Douglas Hotel on Arran and now plan to renovate
