A
successful politician who was elected as an MSP to
represent the people of West of Scotland in the
Scottish Parliament. However former pupils may
simply remember him as Mr Tosh, Head of History at

As one
of Scotland's 129 MSPs, Irene has a say in the laws
which affect everyone in the country. She is a member
of the Labour Party and represents Cunninghame South in
the Scottish Parliament. (more)

|
John's achievement was to help
Britain and its allies win World War I.
Sadly, he was one of many from Kilwinning who paid
the ultimate price. John died at the Battle of
the Somme in France in 1916. He was school Dux and had been training as a
teacher when he enlisted. (more)

Robert
was educated in Kilwinning before his family moved
to Glasgow. From there he emigrated to Canada where
he became one of North America's most successful
poets with works such as The Shooting of Dan
McGrew based on the life of miners in the Yukon
gold rush. (more) |

Kirsten

One of only 25 students across Scotland selected for
the Scottish Space School 2006. This involved
a visit to NASA
headquarters in the USA where Kirsten saw the Space
Shuttle and worked with NASA astronauts and scientists.

John
studied Law at Glasgow University and qualified with
a 1st Class Honours degree. He went on to become a
practising solicitor. He is also very interested in
politics and stood for the Conservative Party in the
2007 Scottish Parliament election.

Ross
played a key role in the Royal Navy's successful
2006 expedition to the South Pole. He is a Physical
Training Instructor with the Royal Marines. On
leaving school Ross went to France where he worked
as a beach lifeguard with the French Fire Brigade! (more) |

The
Academy was proud of Paul & Robert when they won a
national schools competition run by the Food
Standards Association Scotland to promote good
food hygiene at Christmas. As part of the prize,
money was awarded to the school to run a further
food hygiene project for pupils. |

Crookshanks King |

Sculptor |
|
John
Crookshanks King (1806-82) was born and educated in
born in Kilwinning. He emigrated to America in 1829
where he became a famous sculptor, celebrated for
his busts of key figures in the USA including US
Presidents. The bronze shown above is a bust of
Robert Burns. (more)
