Dougie
continues to enjoy a long and successful career in
the world of traditional music. He has fans all over
the world and has toured widely over the years,
often appearing with other wonderful musicians.
Dougie's albums are much in demand and he is a
regular performer on radio and television. His
song Turning Away has also been used on the
soundtrack of a Hollywood film. (more)

Given
the ever-growing role of television and radio in
society, many pupils would like to pursue a career
in the media. Of course, it is a very
competitive world but Sharon is one former pupil who
succeeded in achieving her ambition. After
five hard-working years as a broadcast journalism
she was delighted to be selected as one of the
presenters on Grampian TV's North Tonight
team.

A former pupil of Rattray Primary,
Fred is one of Britain's top comedians. He
often appears on TV and radio where his quick witted
delivery makes him popular with all
age groups. Fred also appears on stage and is known as a
great after-dinner speaker. When he left
school, he took a degree in accountancy at Dundee
University. He first tried stand-up comedy at

George
is a successful actor who has appeared both on stage
and screen. In the mid 80s he studied at the
Drama Centre, London where both Colin Firth and
Pierce Brosnan were students. George recently
appeared in BBC's Two Thousand Acres of Skye
and in 2002 had a key role in the film K-19
alongside Hollywood stars Liam Neeson and Harrison

Schools put in a lot of effort to help pupils get
the most from their education. This goes on quietly without
any fuss.
However, occasionally schools are given special
recognition for their efforts. This happened in 2005 when
Blairgowrie High School was awarded School of
Ambition status because of its work with the local community and businesses
to encourage a spirit of enterprise in its pupils. |

The
F1 in Schools Challenge is a world-wide
competition open to secondary schools and colleges
to design and manufacture CO2 powered model racing
cars. In the 2007 event, Team Lightning made
up of three young girls from Blairgowrie High,
performed incredibly well when they finished runners
up in the event. They travelled to Australia
to compete in the event and met many top people from
the world of motor racing. (more) |
