David

Dorward

Finance

David attended both Kinross High and Perth High before deciding to become an accountant.  His career has developed mainly in the public sector where he worked firstly for Perth & Kinross Council and then Tayside Regional Council.  In 1995, David took on the key post of Director of Finance for Dundee City Council.  Away from work, he enjoys the theatre, playing golf and supporting Dundee United.

George

Thompson

RAF

Very few people have been awarded the Victoria Cross.  It is reserved for those who carry out remarkable acts of bravery and put the lives of others ahead of their own.  On 1 January 1945, towards the end of WWII, George was a member of crew on a bomber which was hit by flak during its mission.  He bravely rescued two gunners from the rear of the burning plane before it crash-landed but died later from his injuries. During the trip she worked with NASA astronauts and scientists and visited laboratories as well as the Space Shuttle. The Space School has been set up by the Scottish Executive with the aim of exciting young Scots about the career options in science, engineering and technology.

Pupil

Art

Each year a national awards ceremony is held to recognise the efforts of schools, teachers and pupils throughout Scotland.  Awards are given out in a wide range of categories.  At the 2004 ceremony, Kinross High was represented by one of the schools talented junior art students who overcame stiff competition to become the only secondary pupil in the country to win an award for a logo design for the event.

Education

Schools put in a lot of effort to help pupils get the most out of their education.  A lot of this work goes on quietly without any fuss.  However, occasionally schools are given special recognition for their efforts in the form of an award.  This happened to Kinross High in 2004 when it won a national award as Most Enterprising School for its efforts in helping pupils understand the importance of enterprise to Scotland.
