Norman
Edgar was a pupil at Camphill High, now Gleniffer
High. He studied at the Glasgow School Art from
1966-70. Upon graduating he became a teacher of art.
In 1990 he resigned to allow him to paint full-time.
In 1991 he was elected a member of the Royal Glasgow
Institute of the Fine Arts and in 1993 he was
appointed President of the Glasgow Art Club.
He has
received portrait commissions from the University of
Glasgow, the Trades House, Glasgow, The Archdiocese
of Glasgow, the Maclean Society, the Royal
Incorporation of Architects, Edinburgh, Royal
College of Surgeons, Glasgow, Sir James Black, Sir
David and Lady Hunt, Sir Houston Shaw Stewart,
William Grant and Son, the Royal Infirmary, Glasgow,
the Royal College of Obstetricians, London.
In
addition his work is included in the collections of
HRH The Duke of Edinburgh, Heriot Wart University,
Greenock Art Gallery, Argyll Education Authority,
Renfrew Education Authority, Lord Morton, Guinness
Plc, United Distillers, Lord Macfarlane of Bearsden,
Glasgow Dental Hospital, Pitlochry Theatre, an in
numerous private collections in the USA, Germany and
Britain
