West
Lothian pupils win
prizes in online 'Finance Quiz'
Enterprising pupils from Bathgate Academy are
among the first in Scotland to win a prize in a new
online quiz which aims to teach youngsters about
money.
The 'Finance Achievers' project is backed by Careers
Scotland and a number of the country's top finance
companies. The core aim is to teach school pupils
about money and
also to help them understand just how important the
financial services sector is to the Scottish
economy.
Many of our young people will end up working in
financial services and the 'Finance Achievers'
scheme gives them information about the wide range
of well-paid jobs on offer. All
the materials are produced by 'The Schools Project',
a teacher-led partnership which specialises in
hassle-free, ready-to-go exercises that pupils enjoy
and, crucially, are
designed to save teachers time.
Patrick Gaffney, Director of The Schools Project
said, "The response has been great from the outset.
Schools in more than 20 of Scotland's 32 local
authority areas submitted
entries within days of the project going fully live.
This is a tremendous uptake and many youngsters
across the country have already received prizes. We
are very grateful to the
teachers who have been so quick to participate."
The online quiz is available to pupils from both
secondary and primary schools. To take part,
simply visit the Finance Achievers section of the
www.achieversuk.com website. This can be found by
following the link below:

Schools entering the quiz will also be sent a free
pack of 'Finance Matters' quiz leaflets. These have
received rave reviews throughout the country because
they are ready-to-go
with all the answers provided. They offer ideal
'cover material' when teachers are absent or can
easily be built into a course. Pupils enjoy working
on the puzzles and you can
also photocopy the sheets as often as you wish
because they are copyright free.
Of course, all West Lothian clusters have their own
section on the www.achieversuk.com website and some
remarkably talented former pupils are appearing.
Please encourage
your pupils to have a look around the West Lothian
section so they get the message that people from
their area go on to achieve a lot in life.
